Connection heads

Temperature measurements are one of the most common measurement tasks in process industries. They are used to monitor and control production processes and thus ensure the process flow. This means the use of temperature sensors, which have to be robust and reliable.

In order to do something with the measurement results, the sensors not only have to be in contact with the media to be measured, but must also be connected to the measurement and control technology. Connection heads have become established for this, into which resistance thermometers and thermocouples as well as transmitters and display elements are inserted. In our range you will find connection heads according to DIN 43729 in various designs and materials.

The most common connection head types are forms A, B, BUS or BUZ. In addition, there are variants for special areas of application, such as potentially explosive environments. The housings are usually made of aluminum, gray cast iron, stainless steel, or plastic. Which head is best suited for the respective purpose depends primarily on the:

  • Required degree of protection
  • Local conditions, and
  • Chemical resistance

Aluminum connection heads may be exposed to a maximum temperature of +100 °C. If a transmitter is installed, the maximum temperature is +85 °C.

The corrosion resistance of metal connection heads can be increased by varnish or plastic coatings. Depending on the design and sealing of the cover and screw connection, degrees of protection up to IP65 are common. This means that the connection heads are dust-tight and water-jet-proof. Many achieve protection class IP68, which indicates dust and water tightness.

Form A connection heads are used for straight thermocouples with thermowells. Forms B, C and VA, on the other hand, are suitable for measurement inserts with screw-in sockets. Form SW heads are Ex i and Ex d protected versions that can also be used in potentially explosive areas.

Temperature sensors with a connection head are used as universal thermometers, especially in processes with liquid and gaseous substances at low to medium pressures. Form B is used as standard. However, other head shapes are also possible.

Our portfolio includes connection heads in Forms B, BUZ, MA, AUZD and SW / S22. These are suitable for terminal block connections for resistance thermometers with single and double 2-, 3- or 4-wire circuits, as well as for thermocouples with single, double or triple circuits. We can also provide you with other forms on request. The best way to do this is to use our contact form.

You can use the connection heads obtained from us for Allmetra temperature sensors as well as for your sensors from other manufacturers.
